How do I remove my account information?
-
Stelr requires you to enter FriendFeed credentials consisting of your FriendFeed username and a remote key. You can remove these at any time by navigating to Settings, choosing Accounts, and selecting the Remove Credentials.
Stelr will optionally store your Instapaper credentials, and an authorization token for Facebook. You can remove these credentials in the same way as your FriendFeed credentials.
How do I make Stelr work better on a slow connection/iPhone/iPhone 3G?
-
You can greatly improve scrolling performance on older iPhones or overall app performance on slow network connections by disabling the display of photos in your main feed pages.
Navigate to Settings, and toggle the Show Pictures option to OFF.
This will disable the display of photos directly in your feeds. You can still see photos by viewing a specific item.
You will know that an entry has photos attached to it because a small attached photo icon will appear on any item that does have photos.
What does "Show My Posts" do?
-
Under Settings, you can find an option entitled "Show My Posts," which is set to ON by default. Show my Posts actually does exactly what it says. When it's on, your posts will be displayed in your feeds. When it's off, your posts will be hidden to let you focus on other folks' posts.
Managing Services
-
When you're viewing your home feed, you'll see a bar at the top that lists the names of many different social networks. You can customize the contents and order of this list by navigating to Settings and choosing Manage Services.
From here, you can change which services are displayed or rearrange them by choosing the Add or Edit buttons in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Rearranging the Home Screen
-
The home screen (the one that lists your feed, groups, list, and search) can be rearranged. Specifically, you can choose the order of display for your public and personal feeds, groups, lists, search and user lookup.
To do this, navigate to Settings and choose Rearrange Home Screen. From here, you may re-order any of the listed items by dragging them around with your finger.
How much storage space does Stelr use on my iPhone?
-
Stelr itself takes up about 2.5MB, but it can take up quite a bit more space than that if you start looking through lots of photos.
You can see exactly how much disk space Stelr is using, and empty its cache by navigating to Settings and choosing the Manage Cache option.
Bookmarklet
-
Stelr provides a bookmarklet for use in Safari to help you post links to web pages on FriendFeed. You can learn more about the bookmarklet, and how to install it by navigating to Settings and choosing Bookmarklet.
Facebook Connect
-
Stelr allows you to post links to your Facebook profile through a mechanism called Facebook Connect. Stelr works by adding a Facebook application to your Facebook profile (also entitled Stelr). If this application is deleted on the Facebook side, posting to Facebook will stop working.
In this case, you may correct this problem by removing your Facebook credentials from Stelr as described in the section How do I remove my account information?
"Large" Profile Support, Subscribing to Groups, Real-time support, Direct Messages, and so forth
-
Stelr connects to FriendFeed through a set of so-called web services or APIs. Due to a limitation in version 1.0 of FriendFeed's API, Stelr can only determine if you are subscribed to a particular user or not by downloading your entire list of friends. This occurs in the background when the application first starts up.
If you are subscribed to a lot of users (think many thousands), you may notice some issues with the application.
The limitation that Stelr was working around has been corrected in version 2.0 of FriendFeed's API. Stelr will be updated to use version 2.0 in the near future.
Likewise, features like direct messages were only exposed to third party developers (such as Structlab) with the release of version 2.0. We will be enabling support for these other features in the near future, as well.
Landscape support
-
Stelr 1.0 supports landscape mode on your iPhone in a few places: in the web browser, photo viewer, and the YouTube player.
We love landscape mode, too, and are intending to include full support for it in a near-future update.
